The Pearling Ground these days is wedged between the Sand King and Missouri open pits, about 4 kilometres north-west of the former Siberia town site. It was an area of alluvial nuggets, and coarse gold found in a band about 15 feet deep in granular soil. It probably was shed from the reefs in the two mines mentioned above. It was known from the late 1890's, and the alluvial workings supported many men over the years with tucker money, and the occasional decent nugget to boot. It was not until 1923 however that C. McFarlane and F. Bankier, applied for, and were awarded a reward claim over the area.
