The Moonstone Gold Mine is north of the former Mulwarrie townsite, by about 1 kilometre. It is access by a faint un-marked track which heads north from the Mulline-Davyhurst Road. The mine is a line of shafts and mullock, about 500 metres east of the Mulline-Davyhurst Road.

The mine was owned and operated by James Williamson, Frederick Meinicke, and Marcus Cleveland Crocker. They also employed Joseph Percy to help out. The mine appears to be active from around 1900 to 1905.

Theodore Byers and Joseph Abbott were convicted in 1901 of stealing ore from the mine. Wagon tracks were traced from the Moonstone dump to the Enterprise mine. Police located ore very similar to that found at Moonstone which was hard and compact, on the Enterprise dump showing normally soft ore. Byers and Abbot was owners of the Enterprise, along with Byer's father.

The Moonstone was a small north-south striking reef, worked at the north end by a number of shafts, and short drives at the 70 foot level. Below this depth the reef was lost. Gold occurs in a series of short shoots, dipping steeply north. The reef was 6 inches to 1 foot wide, and vertical. It was cross cut by a number of small granite and quartzite dykes, trending north-west to south-east. Some of the stone at the mine was up to 10 oz.

Crushings by Williamson was found between 1901 to 1904, although one source states when visited in 1902, the site was abandoned. The mine produced a total of 158 tonnes of ore for 762 ounces of gold.
