The deposit was discovered in 1896 by Robert Hyde and Anthony Horn. The Golden Horn Mine is 6 kilometres west of the Riverina Station homestead, in hilly country with thick scrub. The site consists of a 200 metre north-west to south-east trending line of shafts and conical piles of mullock. A rough track leaves the Riverina-Davyhurst Road, opposite the entrance to the Riverina mine camp, and winds its way westwards. P.A. 62.
The mine was active from 1896 to 1914, always by Hyde and Horn. The mine produced from hand mining 406 tonnes of ore for 742 ounces of gold. It was worth 5000 pounds in the day, which they spent on a holiday and invested the rest back into the mine.
By 1906, they were only down 25 feet. Hyde fractured his leg and dislocated his ankle on August 28 1908, when he slipped off a ladder and fell 15 feet down the shaft.
Robert (Bob) Hyde remained at Mulline after 1914, and comes to light again in 1933, now an old man, caretaking the Lady Gladys mine. He was the longest resident at Mulline at this time.
