The Gawler Gold Mine is 1.5 kilometres south of the Neta Gold Mine at the northern end of the lode. The site consists of a long modern trench, a few shafts along north north-west to south south-east lines, minor mullock, a tank, a battery sands area separate to the workings bordering the west of the road and on the edge of a creek, and what appears to be stockyards. The mine is bordered to the south by a east-west running ephemeral creek.

In 1902, when visited by the State Mining Engineer, the main shaft was down to 100 feet. A quartz lens 170 feet from the shaft was 3 feet thick but did not extend for any length. Another visit in 1906 states a crosscut in the shaft was showing quartzite porphyry carrying spots of brown iron oxide from the oxidation of pyrite crystals. The lodes were small but closely spaced.

There are four parallel reefs at Gawler worked to lengths of 400 to 900 feet. The original prospecting party obtained 12 000 pounds worth of gold from the mine, a sizeable figure for the time. In 1909 the mine is owned by a local syndicate of ten individuals. 24 acres. GML 497B.

Companies tended to take on a block of leases with Neta at the northern end and Gawler at the southern end. This occurred in 1895, 1909, 1924 and 1935 and more information on these entities can be found under the Neta Gold Mine Mindat locality.
