The Wallaby North Gold mine is just east of the Yarri battery, on the main Wallaby line of lode. The Wallaby Central mine adjoins it to the south. 24 acres. GML 579R. Initially the shaft was down to 55 feet.
The deposit was probably discovered around 1902, pegged during the rush after the Thomas brothers discovered the Wallaby deposit. Early information could not be found, and beyond this is disjointed. Kalgoorlie based Lake View South Company take over both the Wallaby Central and Wallaby North in 1905, and some development work takes place at depth. Values became poor at depth, and the company let the mines to tributers. The company had sunk a shaft on Wallaby North to 130 feet with levels at 50 and 100 feet.
F. Sayenat crush 1906. Palmer and party 1909. Both probably tributers. A source states in 1908, Carlisle, Davison and party own the mine.
The owners of the mine is 1910 are Jessop and party, who have put through the state battery several large crushings from the 50 and 75 foot levels. They are also re-timbering the shafts at the insistence of the Inspector of Mines. It is a large lode, full of small quartz leaders.
In 1911, it is noted 100 tonnes is being raised by the owner Sparks (surname). Despite the mine being located almost next to the state battery, a five head battery is installed at the mine. The state battery was notorious for breaking down, and there is some indication Sparks at the time had a falling out with the battery manager.
The mine is said to have been active in the late 1930's for six years , owned by J.J. and J.E Smith, Stene and Holznagel. They also controlled the Wallaby and Wallaby Central. It would appear a number of tributing parties were working the mines during the 1930's. The Smiths sort new capital in 1941 to develop the mines, however World War Two intervened. In 1946, Adelaide based Victory Exploration Company sampled the mines, and sent through a test crushing. GML 1232R.
