The Black Gin Gold Mine is one of the outlying deposits from the main goldfield area. It is approximately 3 kilometres west of the Yerilla homestead, and 1 kilometre south of the Kookynie-Yarri Road. A faint track leaves this road heading due south. Whatever remained of the historic workings has been destroyed by a bulldozer which has turned over a few acres of ground, probably as a metal detecting exercise.
Minor crushings came from the location in the late 1890's. The leases were 2 x 12 acres, and 1 x 6 acres, owned by Byrne and party. The reef was 4 feet 9 inches wide, with a solid quartz vein on each wall 18 inches thick, the rest lode formation. A shaft had been sunk to a 70 foot depth. The gold found at the site was said to be fine, in a black coloured stone. On sinking the shaft, four reefs 1 to 3 feet wide were encountered.
The Lady Gertrude Gold Mine was said to be on the same line of lode.
