The Africander Gold Mine was a small prospector mine about 500 metres south-west of the Lady Shenton open pit, and 1 kilometre south of Menzies. It was active from 1896 to 1910.
It is mentioned in passing in 1896, and again in 1898 already on tribute. Around 1905 the mine is owned by Weston and Allan who abandoned it after losing the shoot at the 160 foot level when it was cut by a fault. Bert Burgess and Sutherland then took over the mine from 1906 to 1910. Williams and party are also noted at the mine in 1906.
The mine produced in total 1607 tonnes of ore for 1773 ounces of gold.
