The Flying Fish Gold Mine borders the south-west of the Menzies town site, but before the Lady Shenton open pit. It is bordered to the east by the Goldfields Highway, the north by an ephemeral creek, and the south and west by a gravel road which cuts from the highway to the Menzies-Riverina Road. The area contains half a dozen or so scattered old historic shafts.

The visitor is unlikely to see fish of any sort, let alone the aerial variety. Sorry.

The area contained a number of small rich leaders, suitable for mining by prospectors rather than a large scale company operation. Most names appear to be tributers, while ownership details were in short supply.

The first information found was 1902, when the mine is being developed by the Flying Fish Syndicate. One year later half a dozen crushings have emanated from the site totalling 108 tonnes for 435 ounces 16dwt, and cyanided total of 104 tonnes for 123 ounces of gold.

Numerous small crushings by a variety of miners was found then until 1917. Riddell (variously spelt in the sources) and party had a twelve month tribute in 1906, but appeared to hang around with crushings until at least 1909. Old Menzies resident Harry Fryer as a tributer was a constant through most of the mine's history. At various stages he teamed up with Tom Bell, and Powell separately in mining operations. Joe Murphy and Frank (surname), also were tributing for a number of years. In 1906, Brimblecombe and Steele, separately put through small crushings of around 10 tonnes each for 10.90 ounces and 7.70 ounces respectively.

Another syndicate was formed in 1911, to acquire the lease from the prior owners, both parties un-named in the source. Across 1913 to 1914, the nearby Balkis mine syndicate had taken ownership, and were carting ore to their battery on the Balkis lease. The last crushing found was Murphy and Frank in January 1917 of 23.5 tonnes for 72 ounces.

The total produced by the various miners for the mine came to 2299 tonnes of ore for 3177 ounces of gold.
