The Hard Lump Gold Mine is east of the Burtville pit. Numerous shafts exist through the area. The original prospectors around 1900 were Hobbs, Willis, Graham and Blaker (surnames), all of whom were also involved in nearby leases. In 1901, there were three shafts at 30, 65 and 30 feet respectively, with 70 feet of driving. The reefs met had been of indifferent values. They abandoned the lease. In 1904, Hanks and Simpson (surnames) discovered a new reef, thought to extend into the Savage Captain mine to the west, and Charlston lease to the east where it became small and valueless.
