Prospector Martin Rahn is first noted mining gold here in 1905. It is said he obtained enough gold from the shoot to retire. R. Pollock then purchased the mine with crushing activity across 1907 to 1908, but it would appear he did not obtain as much gold. Griffiths and party are tributing in 1909, although they are having to shift a lot of rock to get to enough gold to send to the battery. The lease adjoined the Hills Proprietary mine. In 1920 several leases were combined, and the syndicate sank a new prospecting shaft on the former Elbe lease. Elbe in its life produced 2803 tonnes of ore for 3055 ounces of gold.
