The original lease was taken up by prospectors Higgins and party around 1897. Beyond this, the mine follows a similar story to that of other leases along the line of lode. The prospectors sold the lease to the Potosi Consolidated Gold Mining Company, who were following a policy of expanding from their Potosi mine so the company would remain afloat. By 1905, it was only active on the Queen of the May lease. By 1908 the company had gone bust and ceased all mining on the goldfield.
Several tributers were on the leases after this, but John Leitch came to prominence. By 1919, he had control of the Queen of the May and several others nearby. An old battery from Battesville had been purchased and re-erected at the site. Leitch continued active mining into the 1920's. Activity was also likely by prospectors in the late 1930's.
In 1948 the Mining and General Development Company was formed with 25 000 pounds capital, and took over the Queen of the May, Queen of the May South, Potosi North and Golden Treasure leases, totalling 96 acres. They let on option the leases to the Linden (W.A.) Gold NL, formed in Melbourne. They in turn sub-optioned the leases to the Yundamindera Prospecting Syndicate, a local concern, in part composed of Henry Gordon Bannister, Horace Edmund Annear and James Annear. They employed five men, a pumping plant, and 2000 pounds to un-water the Queen of the May mine. By 1950 they were applying for exemptions, and nothing was found beyond this.
