The Mount Newman Ni prospect is about 5 kilometres south of the Mount Clifford Ni prospect. They are two of several uneconomic Ni prospects in the area. There is also a Mount Newman gold prospect elsewhere in the region.
At Mount Newman Ni prospect there is a package of komatiite flows, with a poor outcrop. The sequence shows skeletal textures, containing blebby disseminated sulphide mineralisation. The sulphides are scattered spherical blebs, similar to that found at the Marriott's Ni prospect some 7 kilometres to the north-east. The host rock however shows less magnesium than at Marriott's.
