The Donegal Gold Mine is situated half-way between the Lawlers mining camp and the Songvang open pit. The Donegal is the original location Paddy Lawlers found gold in the area in 1894, although one report states Moses (surname), a member of the party stumbled across the reef.

The prospectors sold the mine to the first phase of East Murchison United (EMU)around 1896. When EMU keeled over, Bewick Moreing and Co acquired the lease in 1902, and mined it for a few years.

Tributers were on the property in 1911, Pola and party 1914, but activity had reduced to a few old prospectors eking out a living in the area during the war years.

Howard Branson of the Branson brothers took over the lease, and some mining took place in the early 1920's. They owned several leases in the area at the time.

Prospectors, Richards and Davies put through a crushing the beginning of 1933 for poor results. J. Foster controlled the mine in 1934, and discovered a new reef at 40 feet. This led to East Murchison United phase 2 taking over the mine, sinking a shaft which cut a minor reef at 16 feet and the main reef at the bottom. They ended mining at Lawlers in 1948.

Little appears to remain at the site despite the extensive mining up to the 1930's.
