Lawlers was not rich with alluvial gold. McCafferty (surname) found a payable patch at this location around 1894. The site is presently marked by a small abandoned pit, with a large trench-like extension to the east almost joining the Weight Hill open pit. The Sunrise-Birthday open pit is 200 metres west and North open pit 200 metres north-east.
