The Little Wonder Gold Mine is in the Diorite King mine area some 30 kilometres north-west of Leonora, along the Old Agnew Road. A timbered shaft remains at the site marking the Little Wonder Mine.
Discovered in 1894 by J. Gardner, Cutmore and Doyle, the mine was initially fabulously rich. Ore was carted by pack horse cross country, for 300 kilometres to the battery at Southern Cross. The first 25 tonnes of ore came in at 950 ounces of gold. In its early years the mine was producing 1000 ounces to the tonne. 20 000 pounds money-wise of gold was obtained in the first year, a fortune for the time.
The gold was obtained at a shallow depth, when a bar cut the rich leader. Subsequent parties tried to uncover the leader again on the other side of the bar without success. J. Gardner returned to the mine in 1907 and 1912, with the same aim, but was unsuccessful.
