About eight kilometres north of Leonora is the junction between the Goldfields Highway and Old Agnew Road. About 1 to 2 kilometres east of here, half-way to Mt George, is several lines of north north-west to south south-east trending historic shafts and alluvial workings, known as the Casino Mine.
This was largely a prospector show from around 1900 to 1920. Mangan and party were sending crushings through from 1904. J. Armstrong, his sons, and Nagy (surname)took over in 1909, and conducting mining continuously until Armstrong Senior's death around 1915, and mining by the group here stopped.
The African Gold Mines Corporation took over early 1916, but appeared to do little. Later in the year, the Chaffers Gold Mining Co took over both Casino and the nearby Auckland mines.
W. Taylor and son were prospecting the lease in 1921. One source states the mine was informally known as Armstrong locally in reference to the Armstrong family operating it. Fortuna is mentioned several times in later years as the name for the mine.
