Tommy Adkins
Historic gold mining locality from the late 1890's. The main north-south trending reef has a short outcrop, and dips 20 degrees east. The first lease on the reef was called Tommy Athens [Adkins] GML 746, 12 acres, on top of a low hill. Several other reefs of various orientations occur in the area. The old main shaft was down to 63 feet. The lease was forfeited in 1900.
It subsequently became part of the Federation Gold Mine, GML 802, 12 acres. A new shaft was sunk to 50 feet but failed to meet the reef.
The second major reef of the lease was called Venture. This was very sinuous on the surface with an interrupted outcrop. It was 12 to 18 inches wide, and followed down 40 feet with good gold grades.
