This lease was at the northern end of the Norseman line of reefs. The Scandanavian mine adjoined it to the south, and adjoining to the east the Sudden Norseman gold mine, all on the same reef. Its noted in 1898, to be the only one to have been operated uninterrupted since 1895. GML 54.
The Morning Star was owned by a local Norseman syndicate. One source (1898)states only one shaft had been sunk, to 158 feet. A short level had been opened at the 100 foot level. Driving had occurred for 30 feet north, and 24 feet south. The reef averaged 5 feet wide. All the quartz carried gold, apart from within 1 foot of the Hanging Wall. Another source (1906) states there are several shafts on the lease ranging in depth from 210 to 150 feet.
It states the mine subsequently became part of the Gift mine GML 706, along with the Scandanavian, until November 1900, when it was called the Northern Star. GML 821.
The reef on the lease had well defined walls, with the southern end the reef being 3 to 5 feet wide. The laminated quartz carried visible gold, with some pyrites and copper carbonates. The shoot dipped irregularly north.
