Discovery Year: 1863
Location reference: The pit locates the old mine. It is located immediately north of the village of St-Ephrem d'Upton, on lot 51 of Range XX, in the township of Upton (S 072, page 87).
Comment - morphology: COGITE: This deposit (former producer) copper is tabular (stratiform) and oriented N360 / 20. Its dimensions are unknown.
Comment - lithology: In 1863, Logan says "6 m from the upper part of the limestone strip contains mineralization" (072 S). The host rock is a limestone which is overlying lavas with amygdules. Province: Appalachians. In this copper Index, we notice brecciated bornite and chalcopyrite heap more or less barite lenses and intra-silicified sediments with karst neighborhoods of calcite veins, quartz and chalcopyrite (MB 89-20). Near this index ve hole the lodging of Ba-Zn-Pb-Cu Upton (plug 31H10-016).
Comment - mineralization: mineralization chalcopyrite and bornite disseminated and is massive. The mineralized zone is brecciated.
Comment - substance content: 12.5% Cu (artisanal production sorted by hand, S 072, page 87). Note: A craft production ore handpicked took place from 1866 until an unknown date. We pulled 40 tons of ore at a grade of 12.5% Cu, after sorting the hand made (S 072, page 87).
Comment - typology: COGITE-> Genesis strata-bound type of deposit, confined in a limestone bed. Sulfides may come from the underlying debris and be remobilised with calcite in fractures limestone. Type: Data Deficient.
Comment - Production: Hand-ore production handpicked from 1866 to an unknown date. Ore: 40 t 12.5% Cu (S 072, page 87).
