Located 15 kilometres south-east of Peak Hill.
(Map- Google Maps incorrectly locates Peak Hill. See Mindat entry for 'Main Gold Mine' under this sub-heading for correct location of former town site).
The deposit is within the Peak Hill Schist, along the contact of mylonites and quartz-sericite schist. It is north trending, and east dipping. The stoped out ore lense was about 2 metres thick, Mineralisation was hosted by quartz-muscovite-magnetite schist. The geology report states there was old excavations, but no historical information could be found other than ore production figures. The mine has produced 13 165 tonnes of ore for 34.112 kg Au.
There is also an old mine just south of Hit or Miss called Wilson's Find, which produced 14.28 tonnes of ore at 59 ounces of gold. The location was discovered mid 1900, and nine leases were pegged. They were soon under exemption from lack of water. The area was locally called Wilson's Find, but officially Wilgeena.
