Forsbach Meteorit, Hoffnungstal, Köln, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland
Ordinary chondrite (H6)
Fell, 12 June 1900; 240 g.
NOTE: The coordinates given in the MetBull database, 50° 57'N, 7° 19'E, are obviously wrong (they place the fall NE of Overath, but the fall happened in Forsbach, a part of Rösrath). Therefore the coordinates selected are those of Forsbach.
A stone was observed to fall. Its olivine composition (Fa19) is characteristic of members of the H6 ordinary chondrite group. However, not much has been published about this particular stone.
Forsbach is one of the three smaller witnessed H falls recovered in Germany with masses less than a kilogram. A total of 11 H chondrite falls have been recovered in Germany since 1785.
The nearly intact main mass is held at the Mineralogisches Museum der Universität Bonn.
