Northeast of Fowke (Spring) Lake a trail leads northwest from Spring Lake Road approximately 5 km to the narrows on Rye (Pickerel) Lake.
Rye (Pickerel) Lake lies in a east/west direction. This trail intercepts with the lake at the east end where a small bridge crosses the narrows which separates a small bay on the east end of the lake from the main body which lies west of the narrows.
At this point west of the trail, south of the bridge, a outcrop of heavily weathered "limestone tectonic breccia" leads southwest along the shoreline some 150m at a width of approximately 15m wide. This same crystalline limestone breccia is exposed north side of the bridge aswell.
The crystalline limestone ranges in colors, white, cream, pink, orange and grey which contain deformed and "contorted" masses of hornblende amphibolite and garnet amphibolite. The crystalline limestone and gneiss were originally interbedded. Due to metamorphism the limestone became mobile and caused the hornblende amphibolite to break, allowing the crystalline limestone to flow forcing the amphibolite to become deformed and "contorted".
Numerous disfigured hornblende crystals can be observed in this exposure of crystalline limestone.
Other occurrences of this type have been observed on Crystal Island in Fowke (Spring) Lake aswell as Lake of Many Islands and north of T.R. Russell's Farm (Bummer's Roost) on the Old Nipissing Road where it intersects with Spring Lake Road and Eagle Lake Road.
