Petroleum seeps to the surface (oil exudation = Ölausschwitzung) in a few spots.
Located on the NE slopes of the Tödi on the Bifertenalpeli along the line N46.82168 E8.94195 to N46.82582 E8.95160 .
Known since generations, the name “Ölplanggen” is already on the oldest maps.
Öl = oil
Planggen means: precipitous grassy meadows in the Swiss alps, used by farmers to make hay (Wildheuer) in a very perilous manner. The hay is then carried down into the valleys on the farmer’s back in big bales.
