The Verde Web Mine is an open cut mine located midway on a line between the Badger Mine and the New Lander Mine in the foothills of the Shoshone Range near the little town of Cressent Valley. It was mined in the the early 1980s by Jim Puckett, who located the mine, and later by Tony Jones, Dr. Gary Novak, Neal Prehn and Bell Besse. All total the mine probably produced a couple of tons of material that was marketed as Verde Web Variscite. In some circles it was reported as as being chalcosiderite but Tony Kampf of the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History xrayed the material and it gave a good match for variscite. Nuggets as large as 60 pounds were found. I think most of the material produced during the second dig which was done with a big bulldozer was sold to Germany. Gary Novak wrote an article about the second dig at the mine that appeared in the June issue of the Lapidary Journal in 1982.
