This quarry is the probable site of a future silica flour mine. The silica flour is a very fine grained (mostly <5 microns) and very pure form of quartz, in strong demand for the high purity glasses needed for optical purposes, and is mined for such at Corinna at present. It has formed by the weathering and leaching of a siliceous Precambrian dolostone, leaving the silica (quartz) as a residual deposit.
