Pietracolora, a hamlet of about 200 people, is located at an altitude of 840 m a.s.l. This area was inhabited since the earliest times. Up to the end of the 1980s, it was easy enough to find, scattered on the Aneva creek bed, some pieces of petrified wood. I myself (Roberto Bosi), in the 1970s, found some nice samples. The only mention I have found for these discoveries is due the mineralogist Luigi Bombicci (1833-1903), who brought great prestige to the mineralogy of the Bologna Province. In fact, he described four specimens from Piertacolora (at that time it was spelled Pietra Colora) preserved in the Mineralogical Museum of Bologna University (Bombicci, 1873).
