This place belongs to two parishes.
There are several ornamental limestone quarries extracting Moleanos limestone. These quarries are located within a protected natural reserve: the Serra d’Aires e Candeeiros Natural Park.



Enquadramento Geológico:
No início do Mesozóico e por efeito de esforços distensivos formou-se ao longo da margem continental portuguesa uma extensa, mas estreita, bacia sedimentar - o Fosso Lusitano, orientada aproximadamente NNE-SSW. Nesta bacia e a seguir à deposição de sedimentos terrígenos durante o Hetangiano (com formação de depósitos evaporíticos), inicia-se uma sedimentação predominantemente carbonatada, com formação de calcários muito puros no Jurássico Inferior e médio, menos puros no Jurássico Superior, e que hoje constituem o Maciço Calcário Estremenho.
O presente trabalho incide sobre uma área muito restrita do MCE no bordo Oeste da Serra dos Candeeiros, a área de Moleanos, onde afloram calcários microcristalinos e Biocalciclásticos oolíticos com oncólitos, depositados em ambiente de plataforma aberta. Estes calcários, de cores claras e elevado grau de pureza, fazem parte da Formação Moleanos e estão datados do Caloviano (Jurássico Médio). Sobre eles assentam em discordância calcários microcristalinos de cores escuras datados do Oxfordiano (Calcários de Montejunto - Jurássico Superior).
