Kohlenloch am Ankenfelsen, Sennhof, Tösstal, Bezirk Winterthur, Kanton Zürich, Schweiz


A former tiny coal mine 680 m SSE of Sennhof, located at N47.46165 E8.76256.
It followed a 75 cm coal seam in a freshwater molasse conglomerate (OSM) which peters out after about 40 m.
There is one entrance but after 2 m, two adits are branching off, 25 m and 35 m long, one is partly flooded.
The mine was operated with interruptions in the 19th century until WWI but it was no economical success.

There is another „Kohlenloch“ nearby (540 m SE) at N47.46028 E8.76945, but it is not known whether any coal was mined there, despite its name “coal hole”.
