Ancient gold mine.
Fonte das Virtudes island, surrounded by the Tagus River, is a place near the Roman mine of Conhais, and also had gold exploration in Roman and Medieval times. When the barrage of Cedilho in Spain occurred, the island was connected by a road to the border to explore sand and gravel. Following this "island" is a cool amial where there is a source of thermal water that once was well appreciated for the treatment of skin diseases and digestive system, the Fountain of Virtues (Fonte das Virtudes).
