Köppen climate type:
Located 80 kilometres north-east of Meekatharra. It is 4 to 5 kilometres east of the Peak Hill turn-off, and north of the Great Northern Highway, approximately 80kms from Meekatharra.
Some battery sands and several shafts occur here. The local station has erected an electric fence along the highway to prevent access.
The area is underlain by the Narracoota, Doolgunna and Karalindi Formations. The Harder to Find, Ruby Anna and Lucky Call deposits lie within quartz veins in shear systems within mafic schist of the Narracoota Formation. Most of these mines operated as small prospector shows between 1912 to 1917. They were mainly dry blowing alluvial operations, with minor underground reef mining.
Historically the area has officially produced 4,000 ounces of gold, although unofficially this is likely to be higher. Some of the deposits are listed here as Golden Hope, Golden Try, Lady Donna, Lady Jenny, Lady Margaret, Little Jim, Stella, amongst probably several more.
There is no indication rubies were found here, which is an extremely rare species for Western Australia. In some parts of Australia, early gold prospectors identified garnets initially as rubies.
The site contains a prospectors shack, and is much bulldozed. Several scattered bulldozed areas and old workings surround in a 2 kilometre radius.
