A chert mine, which was started around 1832 and abandoned in 1892. It worked extensions of the Holme Bank chert beds immediately south and east of that mine, but the reserves were soon exhausted and production declined rapidly after 1878. Before its closure, it was worked together with Holme Bank Mine for a couple of years. Parts of the sett were re-worked at a small scale between 1938 and 1957.

The grid reference marks the approximate location of a small quarry at the western boundary of the sett, from which levels were driven to access the workings more easily.
