Started in 1888, near the South Rhine River, the Rhine Valley Silver Mining Co. sunk three shafts and one adit (known), on three lodes of Silver/Lead ore (mainly galena). Gold was found in the No:2 shaft and as the lodes thinned out at depth, the work ceased in 1889. The mine was the purchased by the Mt. Rhine Co. however; no further work was done on the property.
The site has remained untouched since.
