Originally worked together with Tor Wood mines (SX 537 891) although the workings are over a mile apart.

Wheal Fanny was said to have been opened as a copper mine c1822, with a lead lode being discovered about five years after. The mine was worked intermittently until 1836, by which time the engine shaft had reached 30 fathoms and the adit driven approx. 300 fathoms. After a period of idleness, the mine was reopened in 1851, but the working was unsuccessful and the mine put up for sale in 1854.

Working was resumed in 1864 under the name of Leawood Mine, the name being taken from "Leawood", the nearly seat of the mineral owners, the Calmady-Hamyln family of Bridestowe. The mine was finally abandoned in 1868, with no recorded output.

As of 2021 it appears no evidence of any surface workings remain.
