Article in the Sydney Morning Herald of 14th August 1935 stated:
"Doris Bancroft, aged 17, of Lionsville, daughter of Arthur Bancroft, prospector, is a fully-fledged gold prospector. She first learnt to handle a sluice-box and to pan-off gold at eight years of age. She draws the windlass and does most of the barrowing, whilst working with her father and two brothers at a new "show" where, last week, they recovered 60 ounces of gold in nugget form. She can sink or drive a tunnel as well as any male prospector, and when prospecting wears men's clothing. Nevertheless, she is
good at housework and is a graceful dancer."
