Primitive quarries, actually more like shallow ditches dug along the narrow outcrop, 7 to 8 km west of Sevaruyo town, mine a bed of Cretaceous stromatolite (fossil algae forming an impure argillaceous limestone). Exported for lapidary purposes, and the resulting eggs, spheres, plaques, etc., are sometimes sold at shows mislabelled "Precambrian stromatolite". A dinosaur tooth was reported in this material, and occasional vugs are lined with drusy calcite.
