Located 20kms south of Wollongong, or 1.5km south of Shellharbour, NSW.
By 1880, George Laurence Fuller had negotiated a mining venture and established a basalt "blue gold" quarry to the south of Bass Point including the construction of a new 150-metre (480 ft) jetty to ship the quarried metal. Although the enterprise collapsed within two years, Fuller resumed operations as the proprietor and manager and, by 1890, business was booming.

Once operated by South Coast Basalt Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Pioneer Concrete Services Ltd.
The quarrying worked three distinct lava flows. The middle lava flow (the main body0 was approximately 60m thick.
