Miller farm


A Cu-U occurrence/prospect located in the SE¼SW¼SW¼NE¼SW¼ sec. 7, T5S, R8W, Indian Meridian, on private land. Discovered in 1913 by Carroll H. Wegemann. Owned by U. C. Miller (Miller farm). May have had some activity in 1934. Go about 2.35 miles W of Waurika on US highway 70, then go about 2.75 miles SW of Oklahoma highway 79 to a slight W turn in the highway, then go about 0.2 mile father SW of highway 79. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy form this locality is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a Cu-U deposit hosted in the Ryan Sandstone of the Wellington Formation. The ore body is lenticular, strikes NW and dips 0.1 degrees NE at a thickness of 0.01 meter and with a depth-to-top of 0 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included a reducing environment. An outcrop is found a few feet above the base of a creek. Associated rocks include the Early to Late Permian Wellington Formation or Claypool Formation shale. Local rocks include rocks of the Late Pennsylvanian Oscar Group.

About 200 feet S of highway is a 30 foot ravine with a 0.5 meter bed of malachite below a limy layer, above red-brown shale. This would be in the Ryan sandstone bed at the base of the Claypool or Wellington Formation.

Regional geologic structures include a low monoclinal dip about 10 Feet/Mile Northeastward off Waurika-Muenster Arch.

Workings are unspecified. An attempt was made to mine this in the early 1930's according to Mr. Miller, but the prospectors later gave up.

Analytical data results: 8.48% CuCO3 = 6.1% Cu.
Structure: Low Monoclinal Dip About 10 Ft/Mi Northeastward Off Waurika-Muenster Arch

Tectonics: Interior Basin; Deltaic Red Bed Margin

Deposit: Bergen (1936) shows location and mentioned that u.c. Miller, who lived about 0.25 mi w., said that someone had attempted to mine the area a few years earlier. Outcrop above base of creek a few feet.

Development: An attempt was made to mine this in the early 1930's, according to mr. Miller, but the prospectors later gave up.

Geology: Bunn (1930) and havens (1977) discuss the geology. Wegemann (1915, p. 92, 95, 102) discusses the geology and mentioned the copper minerals.
