Nederokkerzeel, Kampenhout, Provincie Vlaams Brabant, België
A section of the municipality of Kampenhout.
There is a former sandpit exploited during the '70s until the early '90s.
The pit was dug through Ledian strata and hit (at its lower levels) the Bruxellian layer of the Eocene period and many marine fossils where found, mainly shark teeth and mollusks.
In the mollusk casts, some tiny calcite crystals were found.
The shark teeth are among the finest known and are much sought after due to their great colour and quality.
The last time some fossils were found was in 1994.
The quarry also produced some fine sandstone rock from the Ledian strata.
It was used to build some houses in the area.
The quarry has been backfilled with construction waste and is now mainly rehabilitated.
