Isla Negra
Volcanic island near the town of San Juan de Los Terreros in Almeria.
The island consists of dark volcanic rocks, in contrast with light-coloured cliffs in their surrounding area. This is because part of the Volcanic Complex Cabo de Gata had moved into its position by movement of the Palomares fault.
This fault is part of the shear zone of the eastern Betic Cordillera. The distance between the islands and the volcano in southern Sierra Cabrera tells us the distance reflecting the minimum displacement of this fault: at least 25 kilometers.
