Limestone mine already old at the time when Carl von Linné passed by on his journey in 1751. According to wikipedia he had expressed ideas that it would be wise to leave the supporting pillars.

A large part of the underground mine have collapsed and resulted in a jarred landscape. The exact extent of the mine isn't known but parts of it has been charted. The broken terrain is circa 140 x 120 meters and begins less than 30 meters from the edge of the modern mine.
