A gold mining lease (no. 4739), operated between the two World Wars by well-known Comet Vale prospectors, Patrick and William Maher.

E.S.Simpson, state mineralogist, obtained the type 'goongarrite' specimen from this lease in 1923. The occurrence was a vein in Scheelite Gully close to where it runs into Lake Goongarrie. Goongarrite was later discredited as an admixture of cosalite and galena (Thompson 1949).
