A clay deposit located in sec. 19, T18S, R50E, MDM (secs. 18 & 19, T26N, R5E, SBM), on Ash Meadows, 8 miles NW of Death Valley Junction (California), on private (patented) land within Federal Wildlife Service wildlife regure land area (Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refude). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
NOTE: The T&R values presented by Pemberton (1983) are in obvious error and place this locality far N and W of its described location and seemingly confuse sec. 19, T18S, R50E, MDM, with a sec. 19, T26N, R5E, SBM. The two T&R meridians adjoin in this immediate area. The coordinates presented in the USGS MRDS file #10211945 place this locality in Nye County, Nevada, on Ash Meadows, consistent with the "Geographic Context" data presented in the same file. That location on the topo map lies on the boundary between secs. 14 & 23, T18S, R50E, MDM. Further, there are no mining symbols in sec. 19 (either side of the state line); however, there are specific symbols marked "clay pits" in sec. 6, T18S, R50E, MDM. The MRDS file also presents the old MAS-MILS file number, which is in the sequence for Inyo County, California, along with references pertaining to Inyo County. Section 19 actually straddles the state line. If this locality is actually in California, it would have to lie in the section fragment on the California side of the line, and the geographic coordinates provided in the MRDS file are therefore in error.
