Mining at this site started in the mid Shang Dynasty 3300±60 years ago and continued through the Western Zhou Dynasty, the spring and autumn period, and the early Warring States period.
According to archaeological studies, the site is the earliest of all mining sites so far discovered in China, and the earliest copper mine in the world where wooden props were used for mining. Its discovery has lengthened China's mining history by more than three hundred years, occupying an important position in the field of Chinese bronze culture.
Located about 15 km NW of Ruichang City.
