The Zandobbio municipal territory is one of the quarrying places for the so-called "Zandobbio marble", a compact crystalline dolomite known in the geological literature as Zandobbio Dolostone (Bersezio and Calcagni, 1994; Jadoul et al., 2002). According to the recent stratigraphic revision (Jadoul and Galli, 2008), it is considered as a member of the Jurassic Albenza Formation, Hettangian in age (around 200 Ma), with thickness of 160 m, which outcrops to the east of Bergamo, in the low Cavallina Valley (Trescore Balneario, Entratico, and Zandobbio municipalities). From a petrographic point of view, it is a coarse-grained, completely recrystallised dolomite rock and consists of rhombohedral dolomite crystal filled with subordinated secondary sparry calcite and traces of authigenic albite (Vola, 2009). There are three "marble" varieties: pink (commercially known as Zandobbio Pink), white (commercially known as Zandobbio White), and white-pink (also known as wine-stained marble).
