The Folakara deposit is located between the map coordinates X=245–265 and Y=835–885.
The French Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique (CEA) prospected the sedimentary rocks of the Karoo Supergroup in the Morondava Basin in western Madagascar, beginning exploration work in the Folakara 1958-1963.
Uranium minerals are restricted to the Isalo IIa Unit, which in the Folakara area has been sub-divided into Basal Member, Amboloando-Mokara members, Ankaramenabe-Ankisatra members and Andolotelo, G-9, Ankotrofotsy-Antsohy members.
