An old lead, baryte and chert mine on Mogshaw Rake, an EW-trending vein which was also worked further west by Magpie Mine and further east by Haredale Mine. During the 18th century, this part of Mogshaw Rake was in the sett of Haredale Mine, whose main workings were on Haredale South vein with which it intersects. In 1797, Mogshaw Mine was started independently, initially for lead, and became a moderately important lead producer until the middle of the 19th century.
