Situated near to the localities of the ‘Port Lincoln Mine’, ‘Burrawing Mine’ and ‘Tumby Bay Mines’, all of which were copper mines during the late 1800’s.
Interestingly though the records of the Tumby Bay Mines also show many varying mining ventures, some with no production, geology or mineralisation records.
One of these may have been a period of mining at the Iron Mount Mine. Of course, with no records, we will never know!
Listed as approximately four miles North West of Tumby Bay, on the Port Lincoln 1:250 000 map, mineral occurrences index, with a mineral listing of ‘Fe’.
Records appear sparse and to date the summary card possibly missing.
______________________
Centrex Metals are currently proposing a mining venture here with known reserves of magnetite and hematite. The Iron Mount magnetite prospect is located on a quite strong and reasonably large aeromagnetic anomaly along strike from the nearby Iron Mount Mine.
There is currently also a proposed deep-sea port to be build by Centrex Metals at the nearby Sheep Hill Port. This would allow for several mines on the Southern and Mid-Eyre Peninsula to have access to shipping facilities.

???Hematite and limonite were mined in the early twentieth century and shipped to Port Pirie.
