Location: This prospect is about 1.25 miles north-northwest of the peak of Big Mountain (VABM 2161). The prospect is at an elevation of about 650 feet in the SE1/4 sec. 7, T. 9 S., R. 35 W., Seward Meridian. The location is accurate within about 1 mile, and corresponds to locality 29 of MacKevett and Holloway (1977).
Geology: Big Mountain is composed of Tertiary basalt and andesite flows, tuff, and volcanic rubble and breccia (Detterman and Reed, 1980). Near the prospect, the rocks are cut by faults that strike northeast. Lode claims were staked at this site before 1973 (U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1973). The limited information available suggests that the Tertiary volcanic rocks are cut by gold-bearing quartz(?) veins (MacKevett and Holloway, 1977).
Workings: Claims were located during or before 1973 (U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1973). No substantial work has been done at the site.
