The locality is in the Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park and Preserve.
Location: This prospect is on the north side of Hancock Pass. It is at an elevation of about 4,400 feet, 5,000 feet south-southwest of Joshua Green Peak, in the SW1/4 of section 8, T. 6 S., R. 17 E. of the Copper River Meridian. This is locality 52 of MacKevett (1976); the location is probably accurate to within a few hundred feet.
Geology: The deposit at this prospect consists of minor copper-staining (malachite?) in Triassic Chitistone Limestone. It was explored by a now-caved shaft. (MacKevett and Smith, 1972; MacKevett, 1976). Copper mineralization is widespread in the Triassic Nikolai Greenstone and Triassic Chitistone Limestone. It is thought to have accompanied regional deformation and low-grade metamorphism in the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous (MacKevett and others, 1997).
Workings: There is a caved exploration shaft near this deposit.
Age: Cretaceous? Copper mineralization is widespread in the Triassic Nikolai Greenstone and Triassic Chitistone Limestone. It is thought to have accompanied regional deformation and low-grade metamorphism in the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous (MacKevett and others, 1997).
Alteration: Oxidation.
