Location: This placer occurrence is about 3.7 miles south-southwest of Newhalen village on the north shore of Iliamna Lake. The site is in the NE1/4 section 7, T. 6 S., R. 33 W., Seward Meridian. The location is accurate within a few hundred feet. The site is locality 34 of MacKevett and Holloway (1977).
Geology: Placer gold claims are reported 3.7 miles southwest of Newhalen on a 1.2 mile long creek that flows southeasterly from lake 103 into Lake Iliamna (U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1973; MacKevett and Holloway, 1977). Nothing is known about the deposit or the character of the gold. The nearest exposed bedrocks are volcanic rocks of Tertiary age (Detterman and Reed, 1980).
